Since 1998, the Bal ULiège has been the official ball of the University of Liège and the largest gala ball in Wallonia. Opened by the Rector, it brings students, alumni and university staff together every year, in evening wear, for a whole night.

The Bal ULiège, originally known as the “Bal ULg”, was founded in 1998 on the initiative of Rector Willy Legros. It first took place at the Halles des Foires in Liège, where some editions drew as many as 11,000 guests.

Suspended after 2009, it was revived in 2014 by the Union des Étudiants Liégeois, then by the ULiège student federation. In 2015, it became the first student event to earn the “BackSafe” label from the Walloon Road Safety Agency, thanks to its free shuttle buses.

Renamed “Bal ULiège” for the University’s bicentenary, it remains true to its tradition: a ball opened by the Rector, where current and former students meet. In 2026, the 22nd edition welcomed a live trio, Electrio, for the very first time, before Thibs, Gino and Ekany took to the decks until 3 am.
